Flying Use To Be Fun! What Happened?

Since I started being an Internet Marketer the last few years I have had to fly more than I use to in a long time. In just the last few months I have been on four horrible flights. Last night on my way home from Atlanta I started to think about the good old days of flight, and how much I use to love getting on a plane. Now of course the stupid terrorist deserve a fare share of the demise of what use to be a pleasant experience for most, but now the airlines are doing their best to finish the job off. As I sat in my seat just angry at having to show up to the airport 3 hours early, I started to remember some great flights I had before all the inconveniences we deal with today just trying to get someplace.
My mind went back to 1989-1990 when I had my best time on a plane ever. I was in the US Navy coming home on leave for the first time in over a year. I was stationed in Japan and had to save money for an entire year just to afford the ticket which was over $1200 even back then. I was flying North West Airlines and when I got to the airport the flight was over booked. The pilot who was a former Naval Aviator found out that I was in the navy going home for the first time in over a year. He came up to me and said,”Don’t worry son, your getting on this plane.”
Now the pilot is holding up the plane just for me.He makes an announcement that he has a very important person who has to be on this flight and that North West would give someone a free flight to any place in the world if they gave up their seat. Well I am standing right at the door of the plane. Just then a very attractive flight attendant who I still remember to this day named Anna Ornsbee came up to me and said,”You wouldn’t happen to be related to Emilo Estevez would you?” To which I responded, “If it will get me on this plane, I am!” She laughed and said no really are you. I said, ” No, but people constantly think I am him or ask me if I am his brother.” It use to happen to me so much back them I really must have looked a lot like Emilo a lot. In fact it was funny when we would go out in Japan my friends would on purpose call me Emilo and the Japanese people all around would start taking my picture…No doubt their are still Japanese people walking around with pictures of me thinking they got a picture of Emilo Estevez in Japan…oops! So finally someone gives up their seat and it’s in first class. The pilot says to Anna give it to him, so my new best friend Anna who is walking me to first class says to me, “Do you mind if we play a joke on the other flight attendants?” To which I of course say,”NO.” Now everyone on this plane is looking at me to try and figure out who this important person could be. Anna says to me I am going to go tell all the other girls you are Emilo Estivez’s brother. Keep in mind he was a big star back then in 1989-90. So Anna starts playing it up big time in front of the other flight attendants. Who are bringing me drink, after drink ,and I don’t know if it was the fact that I was in Japan for a year, but to my recollection these were some of the hottest flight attendants I had ever seen in my life. So before long they are all taking photo’s with me and flirting with me and I just had the time of my life. It was the fasted 16 hour flight in the history of aviation. When we finally landed in Chicago Anna told them our little joke…One Flight Attendant asked me to go to a Party with them but I really wanted to get home so I said good bye to my new friends and headed for my next plane from Chicago to Philadelphia. I stayed in touch with Anna for a long time by mail and I even got stationed in her home state of Washington a year later where she offered to show me around. We eventually lost touch with each other, but I have never forgotten how she help give a young navy service man the best flight of all time and his 16 hours of fame.
So now I am back from my trip back in time to the reality of being on this plane that wants to charge for bags. Forcing the heard to all carry on because no one wants to pay extra for a normal size piece of luggage. Stupid airlines that don’t even assign you a seat so it’s like a flash back to being on the school bus as a kid trying to get a good seat. Fifty dollar charges to jump on a earlier flight that’s not even full , so not cool… (Delta), and flight attendants who wear shorts and golf shirts. Sorry maybe it’s they guy in me, but I still like to see a beautiful well dressed flight attendant on my plane. I guess the time will never come again when we don’t have to take off our shoes or can leave to the airport 15-20 minutes before our flight and make it on the plane in time… (Yes I did that in Las Vegas before 9/11)
SO I BEG YOU, CAN’T WE TRY TO BRING BACK THE CLASS THAT USE TO BE PART OF GETTING ON A PLANE!
How do you feel? Do you, like me, miss the good old days of getting on a plane! Please feel free to share your great flights or things that now make you crazy about getting on a plane today! In my comment section.
